Edinburgh Napier University Research Consent Form Investigating the Emotional Intelligence Competence of Scottish Construction Project Managers. Edinburgh Napier University requires that all persons who participate in research studies give their written consent to do so. Please read the following and sign it if you agree with what it says. 1. I freely and voluntarily consent to being a participant in the research project. A study of the importance of emotional intelligence competence Peace Opuruiche Echeonwu, a postgraduate student and staff member at Edinburgh Napier University, conducted a perception study of project managers in the Scottish construction industry. 2. The broad goal of this research study is to investigate the state of emotional intelligence competence in the Scottish construction industry, with the ultimate objective of achieving project success and better performance in the industry. The research will primarily pursue the goal of improving and strengthening Scottish construction operations through the inclusion of emotional intelligence competence in its existing processes and procedures in recruiting, directing, and leading projects from the project managers’ perspective. Specifically, I have been asked to collect responses using the interview approach, which should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete. 3. I have been told that my responses will be anonymized. My name won't be associated with the research materials, and I will not be named or otherwise recognised in any report that the researcher subsequently produces. 4. I also understand that if at any time during the survey or interview session I feel unable or unwilling to continue, I am free to leave. That is, my participation in this study is completely voluntary, and I may withdraw from it without negative consequences. However, after the data has been anonymized or the results have been published, it will not be possible for my data to be removed as it would be untraceable at this point. 5. In addition, should I not wish to answer any question or questions, I am free to decline. 6. I have been given the opportunity to ask questions regarding the interview, and my questions have been answered to my satisfaction. 7. I have read and understand the above and consent to participate in this study. My signature is not a waiver of any legal rights. Furthermore, I understand that I will be able to keep a copy of the informed consent form for my records.

Dear Participants, I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Peace Echeonwu, and I am a doctoral researcher at Edinburgh Napier University, currently conducting a study on the importance of the perception of emotional intelligence competence of project managers in the construction industry. Your expertise and experience in the field make you an ideal candidate for participation in my research. The purpose of my study is to gain a deeper understanding of the emotional intelligence competencies exhibited by project managers and their impact on project success in the construction industry. Your insights would be invaluable in contributing to the knowledge base in this area. The interview process will involve a qualitative, semi-structured format, allowing for a rich exploration of your experiences and perspectives as well as your perception on the subject theme. The interview will take approximately 30 minutes and will be conducted at a time and location convenient for you. Alternatively, a virtual interview can be arranged based on your preference. Participation in this study is entirely voluntary, and your responses will be kept confidential. The data collected will be anonymized, ensuring that your identity remains protected.
